Common Carpeting Problems and Solutions
For a large commercial space, it can be hard to maintain carpeting on a regular basis. Below are a few tips on how to take care of some common problems that arise with carpeting.
1. Crushing
Crushing is the gradual loss of thickness, mostly due to foot traffic. You can decrease the impact of foot traffic on your carpeting by vacuuming regularly.
2. Fading
As you would do with any other fabric, make sure to protect carpeting from the sun (by closing blinds during peak sunshine hours) and chemical cleaning products that can lead to loss of color.
3. Soiling
A buildup of dirt and grime can leave carpet looking dull. Vacuuming regularly will keep the buildup from happening and over time will keep carpets looking bright.
4. Odor
Moisture in the carpet can leave a moldy stench if not taken care of properly. Make sure to take care of a spill or pet accidents immediately after they occur. If they are left unattended to, they can be home to bacteria and mold which will be harder to get rid of.
5. Sprouting
Sprouting occurs when the yarn unravels and looks like a loose strand of carpeting. Carefully cut these off. Do not pull, as this could cause more damage to the area.
6. Ripples
Excessive humidity, or failure to stretch the carpeting properly, can lead to ripples or wrinkles. If this happens, be sure to consult the company who installed the carpeting who can use a power stretcher to correct the issue.
